March 2007 Update
Hello Sustainable Green Country,
Last week we had such a great response from the community showing their support for our Buy Fresh,Buy Local campaign! We were grateful for Rich Fisher on NPR, to host SGC and Kamyar Enshayan to talk about the local food initiative in green country. We have been in the organizing stage gathering our goals and objectives for the Tulsa metro area, and will be launching our actual campaign in May. Stay tuned and as always feel free to contact us for questions on how to participate as an advocate supporting our local food systems.
Tulsa Community Garden Association and Sustainable Green Country partnered last Saturday offering an ‘Organic Garden ‘Workshop. Over 150 participated! We were delighted with the day. Wonderful, healthy refreshments were provided by Wild Oats, so popular that only crumbs remained! Thank you Valerie! Planning Committee members with TCGA were Nancy Moran, Diane Askins, Donna Vogelpohl, and Justin Pickard. Planning Committee members with SGC were Chad and Noelle Settle, Keeshi Ingram, Alan Moyer, and head organizer, SGC Vice-President, Leslie Moyer. Outstanding job! So many questions were asked all during and at the end of each session, free seeds, and Organic Gardening magazines were given to all the participants, as well as very interesting vendor displays. It is inspiring to see so many new gardeners interested in organically grown food!
We are still progressing with the Pearl Farmers Market, a new market for Thursday evenings from 4:00-8:00p.m. If you grow a garden and would like to participate as a vendor, we will be offering a meeting this Wednesday at 1:30p.m. Call Leah Pickard, market manager, 743-8698 for location, or email me and we will fill you in on the details.
Be sure and check out this month’s issue of Tulsa People, which focuses on green living in our community. One of our SGC founders, Keeshi Ingram, is highlighted there. Working with natural materials, her deep green effort will bring a Cob(earthen building)/ Straw Bale workshop in May. Check out our website www.sustainablegreencountry.org to pre-register.
Mark your calendar for April 20 &21 to attend our Oklahoma Sustainability Network state conference held in Norman.
We hope we will see you at our monthly meeting on Thursday. (Details below)
Sustainably yours,
